A Look at the Use of Elements in Modern Foodservice Décor.jpeg

Trends can change as often as the outside elements. We see this especially in the foodservice realm. In food, organic trends like farm-to-table are widespread these days. But in terms of style, one modern trend is the use of the elements of nature in restaurants and foodservice operations.

Natural elements in restaurants or foodservice operations offer a sense of authenticity. Diners appreciate the organic appeal and the outdoor feel from these materials that are becoming more common in foodservice décor. Whether it's interior design or tabletop design, foodservice is making room at the table for nature and its natural elements. Let’s take a closer look at how some of these elements make a statement in dining.

WOOD

Nothing is more natural than wood. Restaurants and other operations employ the use of wooden materials nearly everywhere you look. From furniture like tables and chairs to wall décor and flooring, wood is prominent in foodservice décor. Going for a more rustic look? Wood is generally the choice.

SLATE

Stroll by a restaurant, bar, or café and there’s a good chance your first encounter with the operation involves slate. The chalkboard sign out front is probably promoting today's special. Walk inside and look up. More slate signage. This time it’s behind the bar or counter, showcasing all the beers on tap or the food specials of the day.

SNOW

Snow is a material that is pure, clean, and sterile. A white interior instills a sense of cleanliness. Think of a doctor’s office, only more stylish. Similarly to snow, the look of ice is abundant in foodservice décor. With glass fixtures, wine glasses, and even ice bars, the element of ice in foodservice design has both figurative and literal applications.

CONCRETE

The “industrial” look is an increasingly popular design trend in a variety of restaurants. Exposed ceilings, metal furniture, and concrete flooring and counters are all common elements to this trend. Concrete especially has taken on a life of its own in terms of foodservice décor. Polished concrete counters, tabletops, bars, and floors create that industrial look and feel in restaurants and other foodservice operations.
